At-Home Date Night Ideas

When traditional date nights have been replaced with a socially-approved hall pass to not shower for days or change out of sweats for a week, it’s easy to let romance go by the wayside.
This moment has really brought into focus the difference between time and quality time. Remembering that sharing space is not the same as connected time, here are some ideas for at-home date nights:
Picnic on the roof or backyard. Whether you order in (support local restaurants!) or cook at home, sharing a meal free of devices and distraction can nourish more than just your physical body. Switching up the setting breaks us from ‘routine’ which is shown to increase creative thinking and receptivity to experience.
Have an ‘Art Night’: Create a textured piece by collaging with old photographs and magazines. Learn body painting or tattoo each other with temporary makers. Get weird with it.
Build a fort in the living room. Cozy up with some snacks, adult beverages, and a board game, playlist, app game (heads-up?), or a movie. Whatever suits your fancy.
Go old school and play cards. Gin anyone? Pour yourself a quaran-tini and channel the good ol' days.
Dress & Dance (Party). This one can get messy fast, but it’s a blast. Record it on your phone and make a digital greeting card to share with your friends or family.
Learn together. New experiences are powerful bonding agents and can be a great opportunity to grow with your partner. Choose something that you’re both interested in and put aside an hour a week. There are free courses on Coursera and Udemy and a ton of online offerings right now to meet every interest. Bonus: this one can be stretched out for some time. Alternately, each person can ‘choose’ the theme for that week. Last night we streamed an online cooking class hosted by the Gourmandise school (streaming live every day at 5:30!).
Have a spa day (or night!). Light some candles, turn on this playlist and bring out the body oil (coconut oil is great). Take turns massaging each other, followed by a bath-tub foot soak Want something less labor-intensive? Throw on bathrobes, home-made face mask (unless you have some handy) and enjoy a digital sound bath.
Ideas to add to this list? I'd love to hear them!
